OVHcloud custom domain email: offers, prices and DNS setup
Your domain is at OVHcloud and you want you@yourdomain on it. OVHcloud gives you a small mailbox with the domain and sells four paid email products on top. Here is what each one costs on OVHcloud's UK site, how to change the MX and TXT records in the OVHcloud Control Panel, and what to enter if you pick Shipmail. OVHcloud prices are pounds sterling per account per month, checked on November 1, 2026; Shipmail's are US dollars.
Short answer
Every domain ordered at OVHcloud comes with a free 5GB email account, and paid mailboxes start at £0.26 a month per account excluding VAT (£0.31 including VAT) for Zimbra Starter on the UK site. Email Pro is from £1.39 and Hosted Exchange from £3.59, both per account per month excluding VAT. To use another provider, open Web Cloud, Domain names, your domain and the DNS zone tab, replace OVHcloud's MX records and add the new provider's TXT records.

The email account included with an OVHcloud domain
OVHcloud's UK site says every domain ordered there comes with free services: a 5GB email account and 10MB of web space. OVHcloud web hosting plans also include email accounts. You create the accounts in the OVHcloud Control Panel and read them in webmail or any mail app.[1]
OVHcloud's documentation calls these mailboxes MX Plan. They all receive mail through OVHcloud's MX records, which matters when you switch: those records have to go.[5]
OVHcloud paid email: Zimbra, Email Pro and Exchange
- Zimbra Starter: £0.26 excluding VAT, or £0.31 including VAT, per account per month. One mailbox with 15 GB, webmail, IMAP, POP and SMTPS.
- Zimbra Professional: £1.64 excluding VAT, or £1.97 including VAT. 50 GB, ActiveSync, file storage and an office suite. A Business tier is listed as coming soon.
- Email Pro: from £1.39 excluding VAT, or £1.67 including VAT. 15 GB, data hosted in France.
- Hosted Exchange: from £3.59 excluding VAT, or £4.31 including VAT. A standard Exchange account with 50 GB or 300 GB.
Every price is per account, so five people cost five times the line above. These are the prices on OVHcloud's UK site, in pounds.[2]
Shipmail on an OVHcloud domain
You can keep the domain at OVHcloud and host the mail at Shipmail. Shipmail charges per plan in US dollars, not per account: Solo is $4 a month for 2 mailboxes with 15 GB each, and 5 mailboxes cost $12 a month on Pro plus one extra mailbox.[8]
On price alone, Zimbra Starter is cheaper per inbox. Shipmail makes sense when you also want newsletters, booking pages, aliases and a catch-all in the same plan, or a team inbox on the larger plans. If one free address is all you need, keep the one that came with the domain.Sources[8]Shipmail pricing[2]OVHcloud email offers (UK)[9]Shipmail newsletter editor documentation[10]Shipmail booking pages documentation[11]Shipmail catch-all docs[12]Shipmail shared inbox documentation
How to edit MX and TXT records in the OVHcloud DNS zone
These steps apply when the domain uses OVHcloud's DNS servers. If it uses another provider's, change the records there. OVHcloud warns that a wrong MX change can stop mail from arriving, so copy the old values before you delete anything.[5]
- Step 1
Add the domain in Shipmail
Add your domain in Shipmail. It lists the records to publish. Use Configure automatically if Shipmail offers it; otherwise copy the values by hand as below.
- Step 2
Open the DNS zone
In the OVHcloud Control Panel, go to Web Cloud, then Domain names, select the domain and open the DNS zone tab. Filter the table by MX.
- Step 3
Remove OVHcloud's MX records
OVHcloud's mail uses
mx0.mail.ovh.nettomx4.mail.ovh.netin Europe, ormx0.mail.ovh.catomx4.mail.ovh.cain other regions. On each row, open the ⋮ menu and choose Delete the entry, or tick them all and click Delete. Left in place, they would split incoming mail between two providers. - Step 4
Add Shipmail's MX record
Click Add an entry above the table and choose MX. Leave the subdomain empty, set priority 10 and target
mx1.shipmail.to.with a dot at the end: OVHcloud appends your domain to a target without one. Leave TTL on By default and click Add. - Step 5
Add the TXT records
Click Add an entry again and choose TXT. Leave the subdomain empty for SPF, or enter only
shipmail._domainkeyor_dmarc. If the zone already has an SPF record such asv=spf1 include:mx.ovh.com ~all, edit it with Edit the entry instead of adding a second one. - Step 6
Wait for the check, then create mailboxes
OVHcloud says MX changes take 4 to 24 hours to propagate fully. Once Shipmail verifies the domain, create a mailbox for each address and add aliases for the rest.
The Shipmail records to add at OVHcloud
Shipmail asks for four records. The DKIM value is unique to your domain, so copy it from the Domains page in Shipmail. OVHcloud's form also offers dedicated SPF, DKIM and DMARC types; a plain TXT entry with Shipmail's value works the same.Sources[14]Shipmail DNS setup docs: DMARC record[6]OVHcloud docs: editing an OVHcloud DNS zone
- MX, host
@, valuemx1.shipmail.to, priority 10. It routes incoming mail to Shipmail. - TXT, host
@, valuev=spf1 include:spf.shipmail.to -all. This is SPF, the list of servers allowed to send for the domain. - TXT, host
shipmail._domainkey, value: the DKIM key shown for your domain in Shipmail. It signs every message you send. - TXT, host
_dmarc, valuev=DMARC1; p=reject. DMARC tells receivers to refuse mail that fails SPF and DKIM.
If you still send from an OVHcloud mailbox for a while, keep a single SPF record that carries both include:mx.ovh.com and Shipmail's include. Two SPF records on one domain make both fail.Sources[7]OVHcloud docs: improve email security with an SPF record[13]Shipmail domain setup documentation
