Wix email hosting: what Wix sells, what it costs, and your other options

You built the site on Wix, the domain is there, and now you want hello@yourdomain. Wix will sell you a mailbox, but it isn't Wix's own product, and it isn't your only choice. Here is what Wix actually sells, what the other options cost, and how to point a Wix domain at any of them. Prices are US dollars, checked on each provider's own page.

Short answer

Wix doesn't run its own mail servers. Its business email is Google Workspace, resold through your Wix account from $7 a mailbox a month, and no Wix site plan includes it. You don't have to buy it from Wix. Any email provider works with a Wix domain: you add its MX and TXT records in Wix's DNS settings. Microsoft's Exchange Online is $4 a mailbox, Zoho Mail Lite $1, and Shipmail $4 a month for 2 mailboxes.

What Wix sells: Google Workspace, resold

Wix business email is Google Workspace. You buy it in your Wix account under Business Email, and Wix bills you for it. The mailboxes run on Google, and you sign in to Gmail.   • Business Starter, $7: Gmail on your domain and 30 GB of storage per user.
  • Business Standard, $14: 2 TB per user, Meet recordings and shared drives.
  • Business Plus, $22: 5 TB per user and Google Vault for legal holds.

Two things catch people out. First, no Wix Premium or Studio plan includes a mailbox. The free domain you get with an annual site plan is just the domain. Google Workspace direct: the same product without Wix

Wix's $7 matches Google's own US price for Business Starter on an annual plan, $7 a user. Month to month, Google charges $8.40. So buying through Wix doesn't save or cost much. Pick Workspace either way if your team already lives in Google Docs and Drive. If you only want email, you're paying for an office suite you won't open.

Microsoft 365: if you live in Outlook

Wix doesn't sell Microsoft mail, but it works fine with a Wix domain. Exchange Online (Plan 1) is $4 a user a month, paid yearly, with a 50 GB mailbox. Zoho Mail: the lowest price per inbox

Zoho Mail Lite is $1 a user a month with 5 GB, billed yearly, with no monthly plan. Five mailboxes cost $5. Zoho also has a free plan for up to 5 users on one domain, but it has no IMAP or POP, so you're limited to Zoho's own apps.Sources[11]Zoho Mail pricing[12]Zoho Mail Forever Free plan

Shipmail: a flat price, plus newsletters and bookings

Shipmail charges per plan, not per mailbox. Solo is $4 a month for 2 mailboxes with 15 GB each. Five mailboxes cost $12 a month on Pro plus one extra mailbox. The same five on Google Workspace through Wix cost $35.Sources[13]Shipmail pricing[2]Wix blog: how much does a business email cost

A Wix site often comes with a few paid add-ons around email: a newsletter, a booking link, a shared contact address. Shipmail puts those in the same plan.

  • Newsletters with double opt-in. Solo covers 500 subscribers and 1,000 sends a month.
  • Booking pages that check your calendar and add a Google Meet or Zoom link.
  • Aliases and a catch-all, so hello@ and orders@ can land in one mailbox.
  • A team inbox on Pro and Team: assign a conversation, leave an internal note.

Where it doesn't fit: Shipmail has no Docs, Sheets or file storage. If you need an office suite, take Google or Microsoft. If $1 an inbox is the whole decision, take Zoho.[13]

How to connect any email provider to a Wix domain

Your Wix site and your email are separate. Changing email only touches the MX and TXT records, so the site keeps running. One check first: Wix only lets you edit those records if the domain is connected to Wix by name servers.   1. Step 1

    Add the domain at the new provider

    In Shipmail, add your domain. It shows the MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC values to publish. Other providers show the same kind of list.

  2. Step 2

    Set the MX record in Wix

    In your Wix account, open Domains, click the Domain Actions icon next to the domain, and choose Edit MX records. Pick your provider from the list, or choose Other and enter the mail server in the Points to field. If Google Workspace MX records are already there, replace them.

  3. Step 3

    Add the TXT records

    Go back to Domain Actions and choose Manage DNS Records. Under TXT, click Add Record for SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Where the provider says @ for the host, leave the Host name blank. Keep one SPF record only.

  4. Step 4

    Wait for verification, then create mailboxes

    Wix says changes can take up to 48 hours, though they usually show up much sooner. Once Shipmail verifies the domain, create a mailbox for each address and add aliases for the rest.

  5. Step 5

    Bring the old mail over

    Coming from Google Workspace, import over IMAP or upload a Google Takeout archive. Send and reply from every address, then cancel the old subscription.
