Where Infomaniak is the better choice

Infomaniak is the better choice when your mail must stay in Switzerland. It develops and hosts Mail in its own Swiss data centers, keeps every mailbox in 2 of them, and can restore data for 30 days.[13]

  • A client contract or your sector requires storage in Switzerland. Shipmail stores mail in Germany.
  • You want the lowest price per person. kSuite Standard is CHF 1.76 per user a month with 2 addresses each.
  • You keep years of mail. Infomaniak's paid plans have no mail storage limit.
  • You want files, documents and video calls from the same provider. kSuite includes kDrive, online documents and kMeet.
  • You send sensitive data to people outside your company. Infomaniak encrypts a message with OpenPGP in one click.

Where Shipmail is the better Infomaniak alternative

Shipmail is the better Infomaniak alternative when your mail is a team's work, not one person's inbox. Pro gives 5 people 4 mailboxes and a shared inbox for CHF 9 a month in total.Sources[1]Shipmail pricing[4]Shipmail shared inbox documentation

  • Several people answer contact@. Shipmail assigns each conversation, keeps internal notes beside it and shows who is already replying.
  • You send a newsletter. Solo sends 10,000 newsletter emails a month from your domain, to a list of any size, with double opt-in.
  • Clients book appointments with you. Booking pages read your Shipmail calendar and add a Zoom or Google Meet link.
  • Your website or shop sends email. Receipts go out through the API from a sending subdomain, and replies land in a mailbox.
  • You add addresses often. Shipmail counts mailboxes per plan, so info@ and contact@ cost nothing extra up to the plan's limit.

Is Shipmail allowed under Swiss data protection law?

Yes. Shipmail stores mail, its database and backups in Germany. The Swiss Data Protection Ordinance lists Germany as a country with an adequate level of protection, so a Swiss business needs no extra contract clauses to use it.Sources[2]Shipmail Data Processing Agreement[11]Swiss Data Protection Ordinance (OPDo), annex 1

How to move from Infomaniak to Shipmail

To move from Infomaniak, verify your domain in Shipmail, create the mailboxes, and import each address with an Infomaniak device password. Calendars and contacts move separately as .ics and .vcf files.Sources[10]Shipmail mailbox import documentation[9]Shipmail calendar documentation

  1. Step 1

    Add and verify your domain

Keep Infomaniak active. Add the domain to Shipmail and publish its MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records in Infomaniak's DNS zone. Wait until every check passes.

  2. Step 2

    Create the mailboxes

Create a Shipmail mailbox for each address you still use. Turn the others into aliases of a mailbox.

  3. Step 3

    Create a device password

In Infomaniak Mail, open the address settings, choose Manage password, then Add a device. Copy the password before you close the window. Your account password does not work.

  4. Step 4

    Import each mailbox

Choose Infomaniak in Shipmail's import wizard and paste the device password. Folders and dates come across, and the import skips duplicates.

  5. Step 5

    Move calendars and contacts

Export each calendar to an .ics file and your contacts to a .vcf file. Upload both to Shipmail, then run the mail import again to catch late messages.

Shipmail has no free plan. The 14-day trial is enough to import every mailbox and compare folder counts before you cancel Infomaniak.[1]
