shipmail IMAP and SMTP settings
Use these settings to connect your shipmail mailbox to any email client. Your username is always your full email address, and your password is the one you set when creating the mailbox.
Incoming mail (IMAP)
| Server | mx1.shipmail.to |
| Port | 993 |
| Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | Your full email address |
| Password | Your mailbox password |
Outgoing mail (SMTP)
| Server | mx1.shipmail.to |
| Port | 465 |
| Security | SSL/TLS |
| Username | Your full email address |
| Password | Your mailbox password |
JMAP (modern alternative)
JMAP replaces IMAP and SMTP with a single connection. If your email client supports it, JMAP provides faster sync and lower bandwidth usage.

| Username | Your full email address |

Frequently asked questions
Can I use port 587 for SMTP instead of 465?
shipmail supports port 465 with implicit SSL/TLS. Port 587 with STARTTLS is not supported. Port 465 is the IETF-recommended submission port and provides encryption from the first byte of the connection.
Do I need separate passwords for IMAP and SMTP?
No. Use the same mailbox password for both IMAP and SMTP. This is the password you set when creating the mailbox in the shipmail dashboard.
What is JMAP and should I use it?
JMAP is a modern protocol that replaces both IMAP and SMTP with a single connection. It is faster and uses less bandwidth. If your email client supports JMAP (e.g., newer versions of Thunderbird, Fastmail app), use it. Otherwise, IMAP + SMTP work fine.
My email client says the certificate is invalid. What should I do?
Make sure you are connecting to mx1.shipmail.to (not an IP address) and using SSL/TLS (not STARTTLS or no encryption). The certificate is issued for mx1.shipmail.to and will not validate against other hostnames.
Can I use a third-party app password instead of my mailbox password?
shipmail does not support app-specific passwords. Use the mailbox password you set in the dashboard. If you need to change it, go to Mailboxes and click Reset Password.
